Ingredients

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Gruyère)
  • 1/2 cup cooked bacon, chopped
  • 1/4 cup caramelized onions
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface to about 1/8-inch thickness.
  3. Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the pastry, leaving a small border around the edges.
  4. Add the chopped bacon and caramelized onions on top of the cheese.
  5. Gently roll the pastry into a log, starting from one of the longer sides.
  6. Brush the top with the beaten egg wash and sprinkle with fresh thyme, salt, and pepper.
  7. Cut the log into 1-inch slices and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
  9. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can prepare these appetizers ahead and freeze them before baking.
  • Feel free to substitute the bacon with prosciutto or omit it for a vegetarian version.
