  • 1 lb ground lamb or beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Boil potatoes until tender, then mash with butter and milk.
  3. Brown meat in a skillet over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  4. Add onion, carrots, and garlic. Cook until softened.
  5. Stir in tomato paste, broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. Add peas and cook for 2 more minutes.
  7. Spread meat mixture in a baking dish. Top with mashed potatoes.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

  • Use ground lamb for traditional Shepherd’s Pie or beef for Cottage Pie.
  • For a crispier top, broil for the last 2-3 minutes.
