A delicious Southern-style fried cabbage dish with crispy bacon, perfect as a side or main dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium head of cabbage, chopped
  • 6 slices of bacon, chopped
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  1. Cook bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until crispy. Remove and set aside, leaving the grease in the pan.
  2. Add diced onion to the bacon grease and sauté until softened, about 3 minutes.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add chopped cabbage, black pepper, salt, and red pepper flakes. Stir well to coat.
  5. Cook for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until cabbage is tender.
  6. Drizzle with apple cider vinegar and toss to combine.
  7. Stir in the reserved crispy bacon before serving.

Notes

  • Use thick-cut bacon for extra flavor and crispiness.
  • Adjust red pepper flakes for more or less heat.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
