A classic Italian dessert with layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and mascarpone cheese.

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup brewed espresso, cooled
  • 1/2 cup coffee liqueur
  • 24 ladyfinger cookies
  • Cocoa powder for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, whisk egg yolks and sugar over medium heat.
  2. Add milk and cook until thickened, about 10 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool.
  4. In a separate bowl, whip heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
  5. Fold mascarpone into cooled mixture.
  6. Combine espresso and coffee liqueur in a shallow dish.
  7. Dip ladyfingers in the coffee mixture quickly.
  8. Layer half of the soaked ladyfingers in a dish.
  9. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
  10. Repeat layers with remaining ingredients.
  11. Dust with cocoa powder.
  12. Chill for at least 4 hours before serving.

Notes

  • Use strong coffee for better flavor.
  • Allow time for chilling for best texture.
  • Adjust sugar based on taste preference.
